I am knitting Emily's socks on 2 circular needles. I have never had trouble before with any kind of gaps between needles using this method until this pair. Since you're tightening up the first stitch on each circular from the previous stitch lying on the thinner cable of the other circular, there should never be a problem with gaps. But for some reason, this pair left me with a gap after I turned the heel and I had to pick up an extra stitch. No biggie really but it just took me by surprise a little. And it only happened on one side of the heel and not both!
I do short row heels and short row toes ala PGR and the yarn I'm using is a Regia cotton/wool blend so that might have something to do with it. I also almost always do ribbing up the entire leg after I've turned the heel. I only have one pair of socks where I knit stockinette up the leg with only a top inch or two of ribbing and I'll have to say that they are NOT my favorite pair of socks. And speaking of ribbing, I tend to prefer 2x2 ribbing although I'm doing Emily's socks with 1x1. I knit socks pretty tightly and I can certainly tell it in my hands right now. They have gotten progressively worse with the carpel tunnel so I can't knit for any long periods of time anymore without my hands going numb. One reason why I picked up my cross stitch again. More on that saga later... Thursday, January 13, 2005
Well, it's been quite some time since I've blogged and I decided to give it another try. Blogger has really improved things since I last dealt with them so I'm going to make it easy on myself this time.
I see that I have quite a few old posts on this blog, so I'll be reading through those just to see what all I was doing back then. I think some of the picture links don't work anymore, so I'll be taking a look at those sometime. Well, here's what I'm working on... Knit I am knitting toe up socks for my niece, Emily. I'm almost finished with the first sock...using 2 circs. After that, I'll be knitting toe up socks for my sister-in-law, Kathy (Emily's mom). Cross-Stitch I am working on 2 things...my five year installment plan on a 30x36 inch VanGogh Irises. I'm also working on a Michael Powell Mini Spanish Cottages 5. Spinning I'm playing around with support spindling some cotton sliver. My plan is for it to be a 2 ply yarn. Not sure what I'll do with the yarn...maybe make some doll sweaters for my girls. |
